In their hunt for a foreign coach, Bagan officials have successfully managed to rope in the the 56-year old former Thailand U23 national team assistant coach Stephen David Darby better known as Steve Darby who is also well known throughout Asia as a pundit
for ESPN Star Sports.Darby has been a UEFA A Licence holder since 1979. He became an official FIFA Instructor for the Oceania region in 1981 and AFC Instructor 1998 and was National Development Manager for the Australian Soccer Federation between 1990-1995 before moving on to coach clubs teams of Australia Singapore and Malaysia. In 2001 he left coaching clubs and took charge of the Vietnamese women's football team, whom he led to a gold medal in the SEA Games.
It is reported that Mr. Darby has been appointed as the Chief Coach of the McDowell Mohun Bagan Football Team for the 2011-12 season. Mr. Darby will arrive in Kolkata on 24th July 2011 and the club officials have arranged a Press Conference at 5.00 pm on the 25th to formally declare such appointment and with that the much awaited announcement of the final squad for this season.
