Karim working on Team combination!

As Bagan players spend their practicing at the Durgapur MBSFA ground preparing for the upcoming season, Karim Bencharifa, the Bagan coach is hard at work working the minute details to finalise a final combined team. Karim has been making the Bagan boys play some practice matches just to examine their strengths and weaknesses and their match temperament.
Bagan has by now played quite a few practice matches against not so insurmountable oppositions. Few days back Bagan played against MBSFA and registered a 3-1 win with the winning two goals coming just minutes before the end of the match. Today Bagan played out against Durgapur XI. Bagan won the match with 3-0 with Barreto, Lalampuia and Malsaumtulunga(Mama) scoring the three respectively. All the three came in the second half.
Karim informed reporters that the team is on its way of formation and within the next few practice matches, Karim would be able to select the starting 11 for Bagan this season.
Mohun Bagan, this year has signed a young squad with as many as 9 players playing for Bagan for the first time. So it will be a tough job for the coach and the players once the ball is set rolling. Will they be able to handle the pressure of football in Kolkata?
East Bengal on the other hand has signed few of the most experienced players this year. To name a few are Renedy Singh, NP Pradeep , Steven Dias along with already present Mehetab, Alvito, Meheraj, Nabi. Can the young brigade of Mohun Bagan inflict the same fate on East Bengal as it has been able to do consistently for the past 3 years or is this the year of revenge for East Bengal? We will just have to wait and see as the KPL starts in July!

Karim: Want to win every trophy!

Mohun Bagan’s Moroccan coach Karim Bencherifa on Monday declared that his target would be to make the green-and-maroon brigade champions in every tournament they play. The 40-year old former Churchill Brothers coach, who started his assignment with the city giants on Monday, was addressing a news conference after his maiden training session at the club ground. “I am honoured to be Bagan’s coach… The national club of India… The club has a separate identity. I feel proud,” was Karim’s answer when asked why he chose Mohun Bagan. “I am a professional and I look at the job as a package. It’s about a team, a squad, the quality of a club and the monetary package. But the craze for football in Calcutta has brought me here,” he said. “I want to win every trophy… But a coach is not a robot, he is a human being… I have some plans,” Karim said. Talking about the squad that was announced on the day with Bhaichung Bhutia still the captain, Karim said: “It is a well balanced squad and we have a strong bench — the most important thing in a long season.” On his plans to handle the two superstars in the team — Brazilian Jose Ramirez Barreto and Bhaichung Bhutia — the coach, who plans to host a nine-day residential camp at Durgapur, said: “They are assets for any team. “Players like them are an added advantage.
